Pretty long zeitgeist this time -- I've been saving 'em up for a while. This story about an Australian woman convicted of smuggling marijuana into Bali hits home partly because I've actually been there. So the US isn't the only country with insanely punitive drug laws. 20 years in prison for 9 pounds of weed? Ridiculous.
And now they want to ban long, pointy kitchen knives in England. Because, in a country where guns are hard to come by, knives are the most common murder weapon.
The joke is dead. Long live the joke. In fact, if you read the story and bring it up while talking with friends, it will inevitably lead to a round of joke-telling.
