Witches NaNoWriMo Roundup!

Who’s doing NaNoWriMo this year? What’s your project?

Aynjel:
I opted for an alternate NaNoWriMo this year because I’m deep enough in an existing project that I didn’t want to sideline it for a month to start something new.  So this year, NaNoWriMo is that last big push to get to THE END of my Jem & The Holograms meets Rollerball-inspired novel.  Going into November, I had 80k down, and felt like I had 40k left to go.  If I finish the draft, that’s my personal NaNo goal met, but there’s still that pesky bar chart with (probably) another 10k to 50.  So I’ll probably finish the month off by diving back into a novella project that’s been waiting in the wings.

Jasmine:
I’m using NaNoWriMo to get my writing back in gear after what turned into a somewhat hectic year of personal life. I decided to explore what might be the first book in a prequel trilogy to Death’s Dancer. I started with a structured plot and set some specific writing craft intentions (around scene structure and pacing) before I started writing. The book is set about a decade before the events of Death’s Dancer. It’s been a fun way to expand on the world building and spend time with two of my favorite side characters from Death’s Dancer. It also keeps me from chewing my fingernails to the nubs while Dancer’s Flame (Book 2) is in my editor’s hands.

Julie:
I thought NaNoWriMo was the perfect time to try out an idea I’ve been kicking around: sexy standalone which is basically one of the adult Tales of the Rougarou character’s adventures back during the 1980s when she was 19-20. For fun, but also to establish some of the backstory that’s referenced in the Abby series. Right away it went all kinds of ways I wasn’t expecting, like, she ends up working at a haunted house and confronting the sexism of Hollywood and there’s a murder and weird occult secret societies that MAY OR MAY NOT have real magical power.

Lindsey:
The very thought giveth me the vapors.
I unequivocally admire all those who swan-dive into the month with such ambition, but it is not currently for me. Have at, you wordsters! I’ll be in my corner, scribbling in a much slower manner.
